Two decades of experience
I’ve been at this web thing since the nineties. Back then it was enough to make a website that was functional. Eventually if became necessary for the site to be attractive. Then SEO (Search Engine Optimization) was all the rage.
Now a site has to be functional, attractive, Google-freindly as well as user-freindly, and usable on phones, tablets, and phablets as well as desktop computer.
WordPress: the starting point
I choose to work with the WordPress CMS (Content Management System) because it provides a sound platform for developing websites that meet all those criteria without forcing me and my clients into a “cookie-cutter” solution.
The hard part
But choosing a CMS is just the beginning of the process. A truly well-designed site must:
- Adhere to best web practices.
- Include custom functionality to address the specific needs of the client.
- Be optimized for multiple viewing platforms.
- Provide compelling content for the user.
- And much more…
Keeping it all running
And the project doesn’t end once the site is up and running. Online success is a moving target and achieving it requires:
- Fresh content
- Performance monitoring.
- Regular security updates.
- Social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) support.
- Search Engine Optimization and online marketing support.
I get by with a little help from my friends
No one – and no one company – can do it all but, like Ringo, I get by with a little help from my friends. For over fifteen years I have worked a network of programmers, content creators and SEOs. So, rather than being a designer who dabbles in those other fields I can act as a “web general contractor” and bring to each project people with the expertise needed to provide the best solution to each clients unique needs.
That “big picture” approach, along with my web-related publishing, participation in industry conferences, and teaching keeps me abreast of the latest industry developments insuring that you receive state-of-the-art solutions.
From our first meeting my goal will be to understand your company’s products, services and vision and to work with you to create a unique and functional web site that communicates your message and culture in a crisp and clear manner in a way that is both user- and budget-friendly.
